Pianist Jiyeong Mun won the Geneva International Competition in Switzerland in 2014 and subsequently won the Busoni International Competition in Italy in 2015. Since then, she has gained a reputation as a young musician and pianist who receives the most attention through accompanied performances with Korean and international leading orchestras and through piano recitals on the world stage.

the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra (SJMO) return to Castleton for a performance of music of the legendary “King of Swing” Benny Goodman Sunday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m. The concert will begin with a multimedia presentation by Dr. John Hasse which will provide insights into Goodman’s colorful life and career, visiting highlights through photos and video clips.

Dr. Hasse is the founder of the SJMO, and Curator of American Music at the Smithsonian.

Duke Ellington’s timeless Nutcracker Suite, fashioned after the Tchaikovsky masterpiece, returns to Castleton in Performance led by award winning composer/conductor Miho Hazama with her 16 piece Jazz Orchestra. Ms. Hazama and the ensemble will also present her own compositions that have attracted the attention of the international press. The Tokyo born composer ranks as one of New York’s most astounding young talents, lauded in Downbeat as one of “25 for the Future”. Her work with the New York Jazzharmonic and members of the New York City Ballet has placed her firmly on the world stage.
