Hootie, New Columbia, and the Bolshoi

…all in one day. My colleagues in the New Columbia Swing Orchestra opened the Leukemia Ball at the Washington Convention Center last night. Hootie and the Blowfish followed as the featured band for the benefit, but I slipped over to see the Bolshoi Ballet at the Kennedy Center after our performance. (more…)

…oder das Leben der Anderen, der Deutsche 2004 film, jetzt in Washington. Martina Gedeck ist die schoene Frau die vom Schriftsteller, vom Buerokrat, und vom Staatsspion geliebt ist. Sie stirbt als die Maenner leben, natuerlich. Die Konflikt zwischen Kunst und Regierung, oder Kunstler and Tier ist eigentlich ganz poignant praesentiert. Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, and John Adams at the Kennedy Center

Well, not all at once. Harmonielehre of John Adams was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra last week in the concert hall of the Kennedy Center. This is a rockin’ tune, and I could have listened to it over and over. For some reason, it required spoken words by Leonard Slatkin up front, always a mood chiller. (more…)

A passing
