Kiera Thompson Clarinetist and pianist Kiera Thompson is currently teaching and performing as a free-lance musician. Ms. Thompson was principal clarinetist of the Civic Symphony of Boston, and currently plays chamber music in the Boston area. As a pianist, she is interested in improvisation and the expressive aspects of musical creation. She previously performed as a clarinet soloist with the American Youth Philharmonic and the DC Youth Chamber Orchestra in her native Washington DC. Ms. Thompson is currently a member of several chamber groups throughout Boston including the Somerville based Serenata Chamber Musicians, the Boston Clarinet Quartet, and the Juventas Young Composers Ensemble. Ms. Thompson has joined other Boston musicians on New Music outreach projects and season concert and recital tours. she encourages and participates in the performance of contemporary American music. She has presented several solo recitals at New England Conservatory, as well as a community outreach performance at the Boston Public Library. She recently performed in concert at the Anderson House Musuem in Washington, DC. Her clarinet studies began at an early age with Michael Rusinek, while she later studied with Nancy Genovese and Marguerite Baker. Ms. Thompson received her Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance in 2005 from the New England Conservatory of Music, and has since then studied with Mark Nuccio, and Ernesto Molinari. She recently participated in the Impuls Ensemble Akademie in Graz, Austria, the Geneva International Competition, and the Buffet-Crampon Clarinet Academy. She studied piano at New England Conservatory with Leslie Amper. Ms. Thompson is especially attentive to early learners among her piano student, and has an acute interest in early music education. She is a member of the Massachusetts Music Teachers Association.
