Programs offered by Zinnia

An interactive, educational performance involving an arrangement of Sergei Prokofiev’s composition, ‘Peter and the Wolf’ – a children’s story with orchestral accompaniment. While Zinnia narrates the story through words and song, the audience learns about different instruments and their families, different musical sounds, and how different kinds of music stimulate imagination and feeling. The story is acted out by members of the audience using props, along with help from members of Zinnia.

Storytelling Through Music

Storytelling gains new power when set to music – being able to use the imagination enables us to relate to music. This program involves interaction with the audience using original compositions and stories. The audience learns some general music education, along with what a composer is – in which then the audience becomes the composer themselves. Zinnia works with the audience on making new songs, performing them, and visualizing a story behind each composition.

Traditional Klezmer Music

With this performance Zinnia presents a number of traditional Klezmer songs, along with background and history of the music’s origins. The presentation involves differentiating between the Klezmer musical styles, and classical styles – along with presenting classical pieces influenced by Klezmer music.
