Love lost

Filed under: film — burnett @ 7:44 pm

The movie “Lake House” starts corny and ends corny, but in between is a profound exposition of the hopelessness of love. A couple communicates across time, more specifically, they are two years apart. This cannot possibly end well, but they get so close…it is tantalizing and enormously bittersweet. They know they have something, they can smell it and feel it, they just can’t make it come together. And both will drop everything and anything to make their relationship happen. Torture. And ultimately realistic. The beauty of promise of love makes so much sense for those vivid moments. What is it about love that makes it disappear. Why is there no monument in Washington, DC to love? It just plain vanishes and expects those who cling to it to “put it behind them”, or “move forward”. When love fails, the participants feel worthless. Stars Keanu Reeves and Sandy Bullock.
